The Department of French and Francophone Studies offers students the theoretical tools and wide-ranging knowledge necessary to tackle a plurality of visual traditions and cultures, including those of France, Western Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean, and Québec. Our students generate innovative research at the intersection of visual studies and such disciplines and fields as philosophy, socio-cultural and literary history, cultural anthropology, stylistics, urbanism, performance studies, postcolonialism, book and print culture studies, and women’s, gender and sexuality studies.
